What began as a subconscious need to matter ended as a meditation on identity and worth. An elevation from memoir to a transformation of identity and worth. An elevation from memoir to transformation, beginning with "I matter if...." and evolving to "I Matter." Period.

That is the evolution of who Tim is now, not the man who first started writing.

Somewhere in the writing of these pages, he realised:

There was no "getting there."

There was only: "Coming Home."

Reading Someone Please Tell Me I Matter was a very personal experience for me, not only because I know the person behind the stories, but because I am one of Tim’s daughters. What I really appreciated was the reflection throughout the book. Tim shares stories and experiences from his life with honesty, and I could see how writing this book has been part of his own healing process. As his daughter, reading his reflections gave me a deeper understanding of his journey and the experiences that have shaped him. There were moments that made me stop and reflect on my own life, my family, and the people around me. At its heart, the book carries a simple but powerful message: we all want to feel valued, heard and understood. Sometimes a conversation, a kind word or simply knowing that someone is there can make an enormous difference. I’m proud of Tim for having the courage to share his story so openly. I believe his words will encourage others to reflect on their own experiences and, perhaps, help people who may be quietly struggling to realise that they are not alone and that they matter. For me, this is more than a book. It is a reflection of Tim’s journey, his courage and his healing, and I feel privileged to have read it as his daughter.

As Tim’s brother, I had heard of the many experiences/ventures that Tim wrote about in his book, as did my daughter and son. Because of this, I purchased three books so that they could both read the book leisurely within their very busy jobs. Although Tim has named his book “Someone Please Tell Me I Matter” I believe it should have been been “Unretireable” is a more fitting for the man that I know. I thought the book was an easy read but understated in the things that Tim has done and achieved throughout his life. His mid-childhood experiences from the Catholic Church School affected him, as he showed in the book and he did not get the support of our mother at this time in his life. To me, I didn’t experience or get the same impression during my school time but, there is no doubt that Tim has achieved or experienced more in his life than most men in their lifetime, and he has worked (and played) hard all of his working life more than most men. All of our family, knowing this, often have said he should write a book, as it would be a bestseller!!!
